Excel File Size

MS Excel is a spreadsheet application, used in accounts, sales and other such departments of an organization, where calculations are required. With the features like graphic tools, calculations and pivot tables it becomes the indispensable source of great business data for the users.

Excel stores data in the form of multiple cells, which together make a grid of rows and columns. Each cell may contain text or numeric values or a formula which determines the calculations on the cells. As a new corresponding record is received, the file owner adds this to the existing file and a stage may come when the spreadsheet may get overloaded with tons of information. The file size may increase and it may become prone to corruption.

Though there is not any specific file size limitation of Excel file, but as you reach to a point of large Excel files, this may create plenty of problems for the users.

•    Excel files take more time to load and save as they use excessive storage resources. As a result the performance decreases.
•    These files become susceptible to corruption which may cause data loss, especially when the system malfunctions

Generally, in such large files, the updating remains limited to a portion of workbook, rather than whole. Most of the workbook part remains static and unaffected. There are two most important tips which can help avoiding corruption and slow performance like issues with Excel files:

•    Break the file after or before you may find it sluggish in behavior
•    Backup the important files to avoid excel recovery needs

However, if you find them corrupted due to the increased file size, use third party applications which help scanning and repairing the corrupted Excel files. Excel repair tools are the applications, built to offer data safety as well. These can carry out Excel repair in a quite effective manner.

Stellar Phoenix Excel Recovery is the leading Excel recovery application which uses the powerful scanning algorithms. This Excel repair software supports Excel 2007, 2003, 2002 and 2000. The software has an interactive interface, easy to understand excel repair steps and safe restoration features.

Excel doesn’t respond if Calculate is called from an Asynchronous COM Event

MS Excel allows users to do event programming, usable within VBA code. An event is the action which gets started either by some other VBA code or any user action. Using them, user’s actions and changes in the application state can be monitored and along with it, the suitable action can be taken as a response of certain user actions. This tool was first introduced in Excel 97 and remains the same through 2007.

But the problem starts when the user events don’t get any response. MS Excel 2002 may stop acting to these events. Basically, the problem arises when these events switch to asynchronous behavior. When you drop events for COM component and then call Calculate function on the Excel worksheet from the event, the results may not come as expected.

But, in the severe chances it may bring corruption to the file and cause error messages like:

“Microsoft Excel has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.”

The problem starts from a complex worksheet, which is being worked upon by the Calculate function. Now, if while the process application runs in background and foreground window then moves across the application window, it may stop responding. During the process, the calculation starts picking messages from queue and then an asynchronous event is allowed to trigger. As the last COM event and calculation hasn’t completed yet, the next call may cause corruption, which may ask for excel repair.

Excel Repair

Such corrupted worksheets can be repaired and can then be safely restored by excel recovery applications. These are the tools which are programmed to scan the corrupt worksheets through powerful set of algorithms.

Stellar Phoenix Excel Recovery uses the most powerful scanning algorithms which proves helpful to repair and restore the corrupted worksheets. This Excel recovery application supports MS Excel 2007, Excel 2003, Excel 2002 (XP) and Excel 2000.
