• Alternatively, Excel recovery can also be performed using a different method. In order to extract data, we need to simply open two new workbooks. In the first one, we need to select the first cell A1 and then click copy and paste it in the first cell of second workbook by first clicking Paste Special and then Paste Link option. We need to remove the dollar sign that appears in the A1 cell of second workbook and then copy the cell. As done in the earlier method, we need to select an area that should be roughly same in size as the range of the cells containing data is in the corrupt file. At next, we need to click Paste and then Links. A Link dialog box appears, where we need to select the name of first workbook and then click Change Source, after which another dialog box appears called Change Links, where we can select the corrupt file and then the sheet from Select Sheet dialog box and click OK in the Links dialog box. Next, we need to copy the selected cell range and click Edit->Paste Special, select values and click OK.
The mentioned methods helps extracting formulas, format and other such damaged file contents and not the complete file. Also, the methods may not work in all situations for Excel repair.
